At 6 p.m. local time on April 26, the National Railway Institute of Costa Rica officially launched the first new China-supplied internal combustion locomotives to replace the aging vehicles of the San Jose Metropolitan Area Passenger Commuter Railroad. The President of Costa Rica made a social media announcement, "We are celebrating this historic event for our country, where the new modernized trains will deliver the premium public transportation that people should enjoy

The Costa Rica project represents another successful achievement of Chinese rail transportation equipment in the American market. The project comprises 8 newly built internal combustion locomotives and 3-year supplies on vehicle parts and maintenance equipment, featuring a train design speed of 70 km/h.

The on-board passenger information system provided by HUAQI for the Costa Rica project features stable performance and includes broadcasting system, passenger emergency alarm system, visual monitoring system and on-board WiFi system.

Owing to the project implementation being in the midst of the epidemic, HUAQI dispatched human and material resources to assemble a joint project team comprising multiple departments such as R&D, production, quality, system, testing, logistics and engineering, with a view to overcoming the various adverse effects arising from the epidemic and ensuring the product delivery in terms of quality and quantity.
